Garden Diary 2008
Thursday July 10th, 2008
I put a couple of rows of radish in the pea troughs, hoping for a catch crop, now the peas are up I can see them and plant around them. I also planted a couple of square planters, one each of Spinach Matador and Lambs Lettuce.

The peas I planted last week are already poking through the soil!
Grow bags are doing well, flowers are on the tomatoes, courgettes and cucumbers. Tumbling tom in the hanging basket also has flowers. Aubergines are really leafing up but thats about all.

I planted a couple of rows of peas in troughs, these were a variety of petit pois called Celebration. They were given to me by Sharon, she received them in a birthday card! You know one of those jokey ones that promise something on the front them have a teabag or something taped inside? I cant remember the joke
I know peas need loads of good stuff to give them a boost, in the bottom of the trough I put a layer of the smelly rotten stuff from the kitchen composter bin, its well rotted after a year or so and also added bowers growmore to the lower layer of the potting compost. Hopefully the peas get going, then hit the growmore and then later the layer of rotter matter. Lets see!

Really not getting into the allotment this year. In an effort to kick start myself, I went and bought 3 grow bags and have taken over a space at the bottom of the garden here at home. I’ve planted out 3 tomatoes, 1 butternut squash, 1 courgette and 3 cucumbers. I also have a few more tomaoto variety coming on in the house before I plant them out next week.

I finally managed to get up to the allotment and do something. I prepared the beds you can see and planted Potatos. I’m so behind its unreal! However I probably wont plant a great deal more in this allotment, I’ve taken on another plot on the same site. I must get some “before” photos of that one before I start trying to get it under control
And yes, I’m aching all over, but its a nice ache if you see what I mean

What with one thing and another, I avent done anything until today, sowed a few Tomato, Cucumber and Aubergine seed. Also, I saved some seeds form a Butter Nut Squash we bought a few weeks ago, I tried one out and it germinated so I potted it on today.
